DAVID GILLILAND – No. 38 Dish Network Turbo HD Ford Fusion – WHAT KIND OF A ROLE DOES CONFIDENCE PLAY? AND, AFTER FINISHING SECOND AT SONOMA, HOW MUCH CONFIDENCE DO YOU HAVE HEADING INTO TOMORROW’S RACE? “I think confidence and momentum go a long ways. At Yates Racing, I feel like we’ve been building some momentum. We’ve had some strong runs – haven’t had the finishes to show for them – but we’ve had some great race cars. I think a lot of that stems back to Sonoma. I think that was a turning point for our organization. It showed these guys that, ‘Hey, we can run up front, we can finish up front,’ and I think it’s given the team a lot momentum. As far as me, personally, coming back to a road course, obviously, my best finish in the Sprint Cup series was on a road course, so we’re excited to be here. I don’t have a lot of experience here, I’ve only raced here once last year, so not a lot of experience, but I definitely have a lot of confidence in the car and feel like I can do it. So, I’m looking forward to getting out there and seeing what we’ve got.”
CAN YOU COMPARE THE TWO ROAD COURSES? “Everybody that I’ve talked to, like Boris Said and people who have a lot of racing experience, say that this place is probably a little bit easier, not quite as technical as Sonoma. We brought the same car back, close to the same set-up, just a few minor changes, so I’m pretty confident that we’re going to be alright.”
WHAT WAS RUNNING THROUGH YOUR MIND DURING THE CLOSING LAPS OF YOUR SECOND-PLACE FINISH AT SONOMA? “There were a lot of emotions. We’ve had our share of difficulties in this series, getting started and coming in here. And that was a day that I’ll never forget, for sure, and hopefully we can have many more days like that. It was a great feeling, and hopefully we can have that feeling again this weekend.”
