Barry Engle was named president and CEO of Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited in February 2008.
Ford of Canada's extensive operations across the country include a national headquarters, three regional offices, two branch offices, four vehicle assembly and engine manufacturing plants, two parts distribution centres, and affiliates including Ford Credit, Jaguar, Volvo and Land Rover.
Ford employs more than 10,000 people in Canada, while an additional 19,000 people are employed in the approximately 450 Ford and Ford-Lincoln dealerships across the country. Since 1990, Ford has invested more than $10 billion in its Canadian operations, its fourth-largest market worldwide.
Prior to joining Ford of Canada, Engle's career spanned a variety of international management roles. Engle was general manager, Ford Division Marketing, a position to which he was appointed in January 2007 and was also director and general manager, Worldwide Direct Market Operations (WDMO) with responsibility for export operations in 116 markets around the world.
Engle also served as president, Ford Mercosul and Ford Brazil, and in this position was responsible for all Mercosul operations, including Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, plus the markets of Chile, Bolivia and Peru. Engle returned to Ford Brazil in September 2005, having previously served as the director, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford Brazil from 2001 to 2003.
Previously, Engle was director, North America Product Strategy and Planning, a position to which he was appointed in December 2004. Prior to that, he had been general marketing manager, Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD). Engle also has first-hand automotive retail experience, having been a dealer himself in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Engle joined Ford in 1992. He's held a variety of marketing and sales positions representing Ford Division, Lincoln Mercury, and Mazda in the United States, Mexico and Japan.
Before becoming involved in the auto industry, the Lancaster, Pennsylvania native held finance and marketing positions in the consumer packaged goods business having worked for General Mills and later Nabisco brands.
Engle holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Brigham Young University and a Master's of Business Administration degree from The Wharton School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He speaks fluent English, Spanish and Portuguese.
