Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 Dish Network Ford Fusion, qualified fourth for tomorrow night’s Coca-Cola 600 and was the fastest in Saturday’s first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice session. Biffle spoke about his car and the race immediately afterwards.
GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 Dish Network Ford Fusion – HOW ARE YOU AFTER THAT PRACTICE SESSION? “We’re real happy with the car. We’re pretty good on a long run. We’re not quite where we need to be yet, but we’ll keep working on it. We didn’t put a whole lot into that practice. Yeah, we did get a fast lap to put us up at the top, but we didn’t want to get too far out of bounds. We’re gonna wait until this next practice session and try a couple of different springs and see exactly where we end up.”
YOU FEEL YOU HAVE A GOOD CAR FOR TOMORROW, DON’T YOU? “Yeah. I’m really excited about it. I’ve got a really good car and I can’t wait.”
ARE WE GOING TO SEE A RACE SIMILAR TO THE ALL-STAR RACE? “I don’t think we are purely from the fact that there are gonna be 43 cars on the track, so that’s gonna make a huge difference. In the all-star race there are only 22 cars and we only had 25-lap sprints. There weren’t any long runs. What’s going to happen is the leader will get in traffic during a 600-mile race, so you’re gonna see a lot better racing. I think a lot of cars were single-file last week because the cars are so equal and there were only 22 cars. There wasn’t anything to mix it up. It’s not like a 22-car Bud Shootout, where you’re drafting and everybody is on top of each other. This is strung out and we’re all about the same speed, so you’re not gonna see as much. In a 600-mile race, that’s gonna be way different.”
EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A 600-MILE RACE, DOES IT COME DOWN TO BASICALLY TRACK POSITION AND HOW YOU GET OFF PIT ROAD ON THAT LAST STOP? “Yep. I think it’s pretty obvious. That’s what it’s boiled down to be.”
