DEARBORN, Feb. 21, 2008 -- The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy has announced that two Ford Motor Company vehicles appear on "green" vehicles lists in its ACEEE's Green Book® Online for MY 2008.
The Washington, D.C.-based non-profit environmental group named the Ford Focus to its "Top 12 Greenest Vehicles of 2008" list and named the Ford Escape Hybrid to its "Greener Choices 2008" list.
"We are pleased that the Ford Focus PZEV model is on the top 12 list for ACEEE, and the Ford Escape Hybrid on the Greener Choices list," said Sue Cischke, Ford Motor Company's senior vice president, Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering. "Both vehicles are excellent examples of the kind of products Ford has to offer to consumers who are seeking high fuel economy, good driving performance and great value in their driving choices."
According to the ACEEE, the 2.0L 4-cylinder Focus with manual transmission, which gets 24 miles per gallon in the city and 35 on the highway, is among the 12 most environmentally-friendly nameplates available to consumers this model year.
The ACEEE added that the 2.3L 4-cylinder Escape Hybrid with automatic transmission gets 34 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway, qualifying it among the most environmentally friendly vehicles in the market today.
"It sends an important message to the public to see domestic manufacturers like Ford on these lists, because they haven't always delivered the most fuel efficient cars," said Therese Langer, ACEEE transportation director. "In fact, last year, the domestics were shut out of the Top 12. So, it's great to see the Focus up there again."
