News CenterFord China Tops Records for Fourth Consecutive Month; August Sales Up 46 Percent, 2013 Sales Exceed 500,000 Units
SHANGHAI, China, Sept. 5, 2013 – Setting monthly sales records for its fourth time in a row, Ford sold 71,183 wholesale units in August, an increase of 46 percent compared to the same period last year. From January to August, Ford sold 551,738 wholesale vehicles in China, up 50 percent from January to August 2012.
Record August sales were again led by strong demand for the Ford Focus. With 30,959 wholesale units sold, Ford Focus sales grew 21 percent in August. From January to August, Ford Focus sales reached 249,576 wholesale units, up 62 percent compared to the same period last year.
Ford China sales of imported passenger cars—the Ford Focus ST, the Ford Fiesta ST, Ford Edge and Ford Explorer reached 1,244 wholesale units sold in August, an increase of 100 percent compared to August 2012. From January to August 2013, imported passenger car sales rose 257 percent compared to the same period last year.
Sales at Ford’s passenger car joint venture in China Changan Ford Automobile were up 62 percent in August, with 53,390 wholesales sold. From January to August, sales increased 70 percent compared to the same period last year, with 394,017 wholesale units sold.
Ford’s commercial vehicle joint venture Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) sold 16,549 wholesale units in August, up ten percent from August 2012. Year-to-date sales also grew, with 143,322 wholesales sold compared to 132,667 wholesales in 2012, up eight percent.
August also marked the launch of the all-new Ford Mondeo in China, priced from RMB 179,800 to RMB 265,800. Introduced on August 29, the all-new Ford Mondeo sets the standard for the mid-to-high-end segment, featuring a sleek, head-turning design, and award-winning 1.5L and 2.0L EcoBoost engines for leading fuel economy and high performance. Furthermore, cutting-edge in-car technologies give Chinese customers the connected and fun driving experience they love and have come to expect from the Ford brand.
As Ford continues to grow its business and product portfolio in China, it is also expanding its efforts in the community. Next week marks the launch of Ford’s eighth annual Global Week of Caring, during which time 12,000 Ford employees from across six continents will participate in projects that enrich their communities. In China, Ford employees will run ten projects that tackle issues including environmental protection, education and kids, and health and wellness.
