Driven by New Growth Momentum: Changan Ford Achieves Record 2 Million Unit Sales

CHONGQING, China, Sept. 22, 2013 — Changan Ford Automobile, (CAF), Ford’s joint venture in China, recently achieved another significant milestone: the sale of its 2 millionth car.

In cooperation with Ford, CAF has introduced a series of popular products, including the all-new Ford Mondeo. The highly-anticipated vehicle has been available to Chinese consumers since August.

Following its entry into the “one million club” in 2011, CAF’s growth momentum has accelerated dramatically due to high demand for these new models.

From January to August, the company sold a total of 394,017 units of vehicles, an increase of 70 percent year-on-year. In spite of the slowing market, CAF is well on its way to establishing another milestone.

“This is an extraordinary landmark year for Changan Ford. We have achieved cumulative sales of over 2 million units,” said Marin Burela, President & CEO of Changan Ford.

“This tremendous achievement is the result of our efforts to continuously upgrade and expand our product line-up with a determined focus on introducing first-class, globally-engineered cars that have been developed to meet the specific needs of our Chinese customers. Every model in our lineup is carefully designed and crafted for quality, fuel efficiency, safety, and performance. With the introduction of the new Ford Kuga, EcoSport, Fiesta and now the all-new Ford Mondeo, we have delivered a product line-up to the Chinese market that is class leading and very desirable. We are thankful to our loyal Chinese customers for the confidence they have shown in Changan Ford and the Ford brand and our commitment to the Chinese market is ongoing and passionate,” he said.

CAF has been committed to increasing its production capacity and expanding its dealership network in order to support growing sales.

As of the end of June 2013, Ford had a total of 476 dealers in China, and that figure is expected to grow to 540 by the end of the year. In parallel with China’s growth and development, by the end of 2015, there will be 680 authorized dealers, giving support to the company’s steady transformation.

CAF has also built a training system that is in line with its development through the corporate-academy cooperation program to train young talent. After completing the curriculum and passing the qualified certification test, the students will be assigned to work in the service department of a Ford dealership, effectively boosting the dealer’s capability.
