The transition from college student to professional career can be rewarding, but stressful. Ford Motor Company Fund and the Hispanic College Fund are working together to help Latino scholars make the most of this important phase of life.
“Ford is proud of its legacy of supporting education,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “Supporting the Hispanic College Fund is one way we can support a new generation of Hispanic leaders and innovators who are committed to create a better world in their communities."
Ford Motor Company Fund hosted a luncheon for students attending the Hispanic Professionals Institute, a five day career development conference focused on professional etiquette, interviewing skills and workshops to help students succeed in the business world.
Two Ford Blue Oval Scholars were among those in attendance. Jim Vella shared some professional advice, and answered questions about careers and Ford's commitment to education.
"These students have already made incredible progress toward their higher education aspirations," said Dr. Carlos Santiago, chief executive officer, Hispanic College Fund. "Our role, together with Ford, is to provide the opportunities for them to develop the skills needed to succeed in the workforce."
In addition to the Hispanic College Fund, Ford Motor Company Fund also partners with community organizations to support various Hispanic educational initiatives, including Ford Driving Dreams through Education, a joint effort between Ford and the League of United Latin American Citizens to improve high school graduation rates for Hispanic youth. The Ford Blue Oval Journalism Internship program, in partnership with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the National Hispanic Press Foundation, supports Latino students interested in pursuing a career in journalism.
