Ford of Mexico is in a league of its own when it comes to community service. For the eighth straight year Ford of Mexico has been recognized as a Socially Responsible Company by the Mexican Philanthropy Center. To date, Ford is the only automaker to receive this award.
Ford and its dealers in Mexico support the philosophy that education is the most valuable investment for improving society. Through their Civic Committee, created in 1966, the School Building Project began. The project's main objective is to open elementary schools that provide a quality education to children living in underprivileged areas. So far, the program has built 212 schools in nearly every state of Mexico. More than 1.6 million children have graduated and 150,000 children attend Ford Schools every day.
Its Quality in Education programs include:
- Values Program - students learn good behaviors and habits to help them become better citizens
- Computer training - children learn to use computers, internet and other communications technology
- Principal & Teacher Annual Congress - Principals and teaches receive advanced training
- Building strong families - parents learn how to teach their children values that will strengthen family ties
- "It's ok to say no" program - reinforces self esteem and values so children can say "No" to drugs
- Annual Sports Tournament - soccer league for boys and basketball league for girls.
In addition, the Civic Committee coordinates environmental programs, including:
- "Save the Pronghorn" - a project that began in 1997 and focuses on protecting endangered species. It is considered one of the most successful conservation projects in the world.
- Mexican Natural Reserves - a natural solution for climate change recently launched to create environmental awareness about the importance of natural reserves. For more information visit www.apdm.com.mx
- "Save the Lacandona Rainforest" - a conservation program to implement strategies to avoid deforestation.
The Civic Committee also grants funds for community programs that focus on health, promotion of culture and assistance during natural disasters. There are Ford volunteer programs for employees that include projects for reforestations, maintenance of Ford Schools and other activities.
The Civic Committee is funded 50% by Ford of Mexico and 50% by Ford dealers with contributions tied to each vehicle sale.
In 2011, the Civic Committee of Ford of Mexico and its Dealers will celebrate 45 years of continuous effort and dedication.
