Ford Motor Company has been named to the 2010 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity, which recognizes visionary companies that demonstrate measurable diversity initiatives and results. The magazine's 10th annual ranking is the result of a comprehensive assessment of corporate diversity activities and represents one of the highest honors in the field.
"Despite a very tough economic climate, our commitment to inclusion and diversity is helping us to pull together and work inclusively around the world," said Alan Mulally, president and CEO, Ford Motor Company. "We are focused on great products, creating a strong business and contributing to a better world. Our ability to leverage all of the diverse talents, perspectives and experiences of our skilled and motivated workforce is critical to our success. This will help us deliver the enabling technology and highest quality, fuel-efficient, safe, and best value vehicles our increasingly diverse customers really want and value."
Ford ranked No. 44 on The 2010 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® list and was the highest ranking automotive company named.
"We are thrilled and honored to be recognized once again by DiversityInc, especially in this rapidly changing and challenging business environment, said Debbie Weaks, who serves as Ford Motor Company’s chief diversity officer. "We have great people and processes, and we are working together even more inclusively to leverage our world-wide assets and capabilities. Leveraging diversity and inclusion enables us to work effectively with our employees, dealers, investors, suppliers, unions and communities worldwide. Building these strong relationships and working together are essential to the success of our global enterprise and our ability to attract, retain and develop our talented workforce."
More than 400 companies competed for this year's honor, an increase of 14 percent from 2009. According to DiversityInc, the increase underscores the increasing emphasis on diversity management among progressive companies. Ford has been on the DiversityInc Top 50 list since its inception in 2000.
“The competition to be on the DiversityInc Top 50 list has grown again this year to 449 companies. In addition, the total data reflected increased diversity across all companies that competed. That means Ford Motor Company has achieved a spot on our list as competition increased and as the competitors increased their accomplishments. This takes a remarkable commitment from top leadership,” said Luke Visconti, Chief Executive Officer of DiversityInc. “The DiversityInc Top 50 is no beauty contest. It is a way to honor the visionary companies that understand being fair is a powerful business tool as well as the ethical and right thing to do,” concluded Visconti.
In addition to the 2010 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity, Ford Motor Company was also named to the DiversityInc Top 10 Companies for Supplier Diversity. The latest DiversityInc ranking follows a series of other industry awards and accolades that recognize Ford Motor Company as a premier workplace. Ethisphere Institute named Ford one of the World's 100 Most Ethical Companies. In addition, Ford earned a spot on the Corporate Responsibility Office's Best 100 Corporate Citizens list and US Black Engineer & IT Magazine's 2010 Most Admired Employer for Minorities in Research Science.
