BIRMINGHAM, UK, 24 April, 2012 – The full line-up of the all-new Ford Ranger pickup makes its European debut at the Birmingham CV Show, with all three stylish and practical bodystyles displayed together for the first time.
The exciting new Ranger transforms the ownership experience for customers in its segment by combining the toughness and capability of a pickup truck with smart technology, outstanding safety and the highest standards of quality and comfort.
Ranger is offered in three versatile cab bodystyles – Double, Super and Regular – which are among the roomiest in its class. The compact pickup comes with a choice of two powerful and economical new Duratorq TDCI diesel engines, and with 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains.
Totally new from the ground up, Ranger was designed and developed to be best-in-class or among the leaders in every area important to customers, especially those who use it for both work and leisure purposes. Ranger now delivers more payload and class-leading towing capability, along with innovative new comfort and driver assistance features.
New Ranger is also the first pickup to achieve a 5 Star rating in the Euro NCAP test, scoring 89 percent for overall safety – the best score ever earned by a pickup, and one of the highest scores recorded by Euro NCAP for any type of vehicle.
“With the full line-up on show together for the first time, European customers can now see the exciting potential of the all-new Ranger pickup for themselves,” said Jesus Alonso, director CV Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe. “We have designed this vehicle to be great for work and great for leisure, and customers will appreciate the difference as soon as they get behind the wheel.”
Three stylish and functional bodystyles
Exuding power and confidence in a “21st Century Tough” style, the Ranger front end features the signature three-bar grille, a global Ford truck design cue. Designers raised the beltline significantly, along with the rails of the load box, creating a substantial presence on the road while increasing functionality with the deeper box.
The two-seat Regular Cab offers the greatest load capacity of the three bodystyles, with the biggest box volume in its class at 1.82 cubic metres and a maximum payload which exceeds 1,300kg. Customers have the option of 125PS and 150PS versions, with a six-speed manual transmission and the choice of 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains.
With its flexible rear-hinged doors, the two-plus-two seat Super Cab model offers extra interior space for passengers or tools, while still offering best-in-class box volume of 1.45 cubic metres and a maximum payload of over 1,250kg. In addition to the choice of 125PS and 150PS versions and 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrains, a six-speed automatic transmission is also available.
Completing the line-up, the four-door five-seat Double Cab provides class-leading rear legroom along with a generous box volume of 1.21 cubic metres and maximum payload exceeding 1,100kg. Offered exclusively with a 4x4 drivetrain, the Double Cab can also be specified with a powerful 200PS engine and a choice of manual or automatic transmissions.
Ranger combines its exceptional load-carrying ability with towing and water-wading capabilities that are right at the top of the segment. 4x4 models can tow a class-leading 3,350kg and can wade through 800 millimetres of water even when fully laden.
Smart and comfortable interior
The all-new Ranger offers a contemporary look and feel with features and comfort normally found only in passenger cars. Bold new interior surfaces are finished with materials that will stand up to the demands of a workhorse while delivering a lasting quality appearance.
Poised to be a leader in innovation, the new Ranger comes with smart technologies that make the pickup easier, safer and more fun to drive. On selected models with Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity, there is voice-control over the radio, CD, iPod, USB, electronic air-conditioning and mobile phone. Dual-zone climate control and cruise control are available on the high series while selected models offer a five-inch colour screen with satellite navigation.
In addition to the enhanced interior specification, owners will also appreciate improved new levels of driving dynamics. The completely new chassis delivers even more capability with car-like quietness, reduced steering effort, more precise handling and better on-road stability.
More muscle with greater fuel efficiency
The all-new Ford Ranger powertrains have been engineered to give customers a superior combination of power and torque with class-leading fuel efficiency. Two new Duratorq TDCi diesel engines are available to suit every purpose and pocket.
Leading the way is Ranger’s powerful new 200PS 3.2-litre five-cylinder diesel engine. With ninety percent of its 470Nm peak torque available from 1700rpm to 3500rpm, this impressive unit delivers outstanding driveability and flexibility. Its combined fuel consumption is 9.5l/100 km (29.7mpg) on a 4x4 manual transmission variant.
The flexible and fuel-efficient new 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine is available in 125PS and 150PS ratings, both combining responsive performance with excellent fuel economy. When fitted to a 4x2 model, the 125PS 2.2-litre engine delivers combined fuel consumption from as low as 7.3 l/100km (38.7mpg).
Advanced safety protection
With a comprehensive range of passive safety features, new Ranger is the first pickup ever to achieve a 5 Star rating in the Euro NCAP test, scoring 89 percent for overall safety – one of the highest scores recorded by Euro NCAP for any type of vehicle. Moreover, the new Ranger achieved the highest rating of any vehicle ever tested by Euro NCAP for pedestrian protection, 81 per cent.
To enhance active safety, and assist vehicle stability both on-road and off-road, selected Ranger models are equipped with an advanced new Electronic Stability Program (ESP). This includes features such as Hill Descent Control, to help the driver on steep downhill grades; Hill Launch Assist, to help the driver pull away on steep climbs; Trailer Sway Control, to provide stability control when towing a trailer; and Adaptive Load Control, for optimal vehicle stability regardless of vehicle load.
The full line-up of new Ranger models is now available from Ford dealers across Europe.
