MOSCOW, Russia, July 12, 2012 – Ford Sollers announces its second quarter and first half 2012 sales results. 36,119 Ford vehicles were sold in Russia in the second quarter of 2012; this is the highest quarterly sales result since before the economic crisis of 2008. The main contributor to this success was made by Focus, Mondeo, Kuga, Explorer and Transit.
63,353 Ford vehicles were sold in Russia year-to-date, an increase of 18% compared to the same period in 2011. Focus sales totaled 45,230 units thanks to the reinforcement of Focus model range by the Wagon derivative – an increase of 18% compared to the same period in 2011. Mondeo sales rose by 10% and totaled 7,357 units. Also, Ford Galaxy sales increased by 33% in the first six months of 2012 versus the same period in 2011
Ted Cannis, President and CEO, Ford Sollers, said: “We have shown significant growth in the first half of 2012. We now have Focus, Mondeo, Galaxy and Transit leading in their segments, and growing even faster than the market. The Ford Focus is a truly outstanding car with levels of technology usually only seen in far more expensive premium vehicles. We are very pleased that our key model produced at the Vsevolozhsk plant, that has recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, is so popular among Russian customers.”
At the beginning of 2012, Ford Transit production started at the Ford Sollers plant in Elabuga, Tatarstan. This has had a positive impact on Transit sales in Russia, which were up 50% in the first half of the year. “We are very proud of this achievement. It’s been only half a year since Transit assembly started at the Elabuga plant, and we have already produced more than 5,000 Ford Transit vehicles – and this is only the beginning of our plan to expand the production of other Ford vehicles in Tatarstan,” said Adil Shirinov, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Ford Sollers.
The Ford brand presence in the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment in Russia also has strengthened in 2012, with Ford SUV vehicles sales increasing by 85% in this segment. Kuga sales totaled 1,797 (+44%), and 512 customers became the owners of new Explorer SUVs in the first half of 2012.
The Ford dealer network in Russia also grew in the first six months of 2012. The number of active dealers totaled 113 on July 1, 2012, with a Ford presence now in 74 cities.
