NEW DELHI, India, 1 May, 2012 – Ford India maintained its robust sales momentum during April, reporting sales of 9,569 domestic wholesales and export units for year-on-year sales growth of 13 percent.

The April monthly sales figures included domestic wholesales of 7,201 units, while exports grew by 103 percent in April when compared to the same period last year, from 1,167 vehicles to 2,368 vehicles, indicating sustained international demand. Ford India also commenced exports of the Figo Cape Verde, taking the total number of international markets to which it is exported to 35.

“Following a very robust first quarter, Ford India continued to register steady sales growth in April despite an overall challenging auto market," said Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India. "Our exports are increasing and have doubled since last year, and we have held our own in domestic wholesales, contributing to an impressive 13 percent overall increase in sales."

In April, Ford also revealed the interior of its much awaited all-new global urban SUV EcoSport at Auto China 2012 in Beijing, with its contemporary shape revealing an equally modern and sophisticated interior design.

First revealed at Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi in January this year, the EcoSport –which has generated significant interest among auto enthusiasts and the public alike -- is second of the eight global vehicles Ford is bringing into India by mid-decade. India has already surpassed Brazil with the top number of fans on the Ford EcoSport page on Facebook.

The eagerly awaited compact SUV, when it is launched in India, will be manufactured at Ford India’s plant in Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai, in addition to Camaçari, Brazil, Rayong, Thailand, and Chongqing, China, and will be offered in nearly 100 markets globally.
