Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine started its series production in November 2011 in Cologne, Germany
COLOGNE, Germany, May 24, 2012 – The new Ford Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost is off to a fast start in its first full month of sales across Europe.
In April, more than 4,700 customers across Europe ordered a Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost in April, accounting for 23.3 per cent of all Ford Focus cars ordered in Ford’s 19 traditional European markets.
“The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is an example of an innovation arriving to market at just the right time when customers are looking for a very fuel efficient but still-fun-to-drive petrol engine,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe. “I have rarely seen such universal praise from the press, dealers and customers as we received for the Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost.”
In Switzerland, 60 per cent of all customer orders for the Ford Focus were for the 1.0-litre EcoBoost. This was followed by Greek customer orders at 37 per cent, and Dutch customer orders of 35 per cent.
In Ford’s two largest markets of the UK and Germany, customer orders for the engine derivative were 28 per cent. French customer orders in April were 17 per cent, in Italy 16 per cent, and 18 per cent in Spain.
The new EcoBoost turbo-charged, direct injection engine is Ford's smallest, yet highest power density petrol engine ever, delivering the performance of a conventional 1.6-litre engine with improved fuel efficiency and lower CO2. The Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost is class-leading in fuel economy and CO2 emissions in the C-segment for petrol-engines vehicles.
Weighing just 97 kilos, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost is small enough to sit on a sheet of A4 paper. In addition to the Focus, the engine also will be available in the Ford B-MAX and Ford C-MAX later this year. Ford also will confirm other applications for the new EcoBoost engine closer to launch.
The new Ford Focus, equipped with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, is the most efficient petrol engine in its segment
