OAKVILLE, Ont., September 1, 2011 – Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited saw sales increase 8 per cent compared to the same period last year, marking the best August since 1988. Solid performances from Ford Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ helped overall car sales grow 18 per cent. With 193,648 units sold, Ford of Canada continues to be the top-selling automaker for the month and year-to-date.

“Consumers are recognizing Ford for fuel efficient cars and trucks,” said David Mondragon, president and CEO, Ford of Canada. “In fact, more than 64 per cent of the cars sold in August achieve 55 mpg (imp) or better and with the award-winning EcoBoost engine, consumers now have fuel-efficient choices in their trucks.  In August, more than 40 per cent of F-150 sales were EcoBoost engines, delivering more than 30 mpg (imp) for fuel minded Canadian consumers.”

Additionally, Ford recently added the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine to the lineup, which is now available on the 2012 Ford Explorer and Canadian-built Ford Edge. This advanced new engine delivers the power of a normally aspirated V6, yet delivers four-cylinder fuel efficiency.

Also helping to boost overall sales was the Lincoln lineup. Strong results of the MKZ, MKX and Navigator helped to increase sales 27 per cent compared to last August.

“The Canadian economy is still in a period of economic recovery, but despite the challenges, the auto industry in Canada is still on a path of moderate growth in 2011 with Ford maintaining its’ leadership position for the second consecutive year,” said Mondragon.
