Our diverse Global UX Design Team – situated in greater Detroit, Palo Alto, London, Brazil, and Shanghai - is comprised of UX designers, design strategists, design researchers, prototypers, and project managers. Together our team works to understand our changing world, identify new opportunities, and take action to design and innovate for the future of mobility – Ford’s vehicles and surrounding experiences.
We are looking for a UX design leader to guide teams via human centered design to envision and design innovative, future experiences in and around vehicles (seamlessly across hardware, software and services). With your creative and analytical mind, you will use key insights to frame new opportunity spaces and guide the experience vision for our future global customers. You will guide and oversee UX work throughout human centered design activities. You will relentlessly advocate a human centric perspective throughout all stages of the design process. As a team player, you will create impact by collaborating across the UX organization and with key work partners throughout the company - product, marketing, engineering, design, and technology teams. Responsibilities:
Plan, lead and actively contribute to human centered design activities from framing insights and opportunities to ideating, iteratively sketching and prototyping to creating experiences that bring value to Ford’s future customers, business, and brand
Facilitate design thinking / human centered design workshops and ideation sessions with UX and cross functional teams
Guide and oversee holistic experience vision (hardware, software, and services) and solutions from research to delivery, leading UX team throughout the process
Lead teams through iterative prototyping – low to high fidelity, based on needs and pace
Guide and develop scenarios and customer journeys through storyboards, illustrations, videos, etc. to communicate vision throughout iterative design process
Ensure overall quality of solutions throughout the design process
Be a strong and passionate voice for the work as we share and present to cross-functional teams and executive leadership
Share trends, strategic perspectives, concepts with the UX design team and key work partners to further develop Ford’s strategic opportunities
Skills:
Hands on problem solving and strong communication skills
Experienced leader who knows how to manage time and proactively facilitates cross-team collaboration
Strong self-direction and sense of responsibility; exhibiting a high-level of professionalism and attention to detail
Knowledge of various prototyping tools
Experience guiding scenario development as a platform for storytelling
Experienced with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office apps
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
7+ years’ experience as a designer (e.g. UX designer, interaction designer, design researcher, visual/graphic designer, etc.) creating products, services and experiences – both physical + digital
2+ years’ experience leading design/creative teams that resulted in creating world-class products, services, and experiences
5+ years’ experience in design thinking / human centered design methods, research, and tools
Preferred Qualifications:
10+ years of design experience
4+ year’s leading design/creative teams
Masters in Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Business or related field
Ability to teach design thinking methods and tools
Experience planning user research (ethnographic research, contextual inquiry, participatory design, concept testing, usability testing)
Experience contributing to the planning and execution of Design Research activities ethnography, contextual inquiry, participatory design, concept testing, usability)
Experience managing outside vendors
Proven track record of mentoring and developing team members into future specialists and leaders
