Job description:

Autonomous Steering Technical Expert positions offered by Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, MI). Technically lead and manage the engineering team that derives the required in-vehicle motion control performance, validation and public road sign-off for autonomous vehicles. Deliver the vehicle motion control performance attribute and tracking specifications. Analyze and present performance results to management to gain alignment and vehicle program decisions. Define autonomous vehicle motion control performance system requirements for both the Virtual Driver system and the vehicle’s fail-functional motion control actuators.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
• 8 years of experience designing automobile motion control performance systems using position control steering systems, steering angle overlay actuators, or steer-by-wire position control actuators
• 8 years of experience performing automotive chassis control in-vehicle parameter tuning, including designing and executing in-vehicle motion control design verification tests
• 5 years of experience evaluating lateral vehicle dynamics attributes
• 5 years of experience evaluating and controlling a vehicle at its handling limits
• 5 years of experience developing executable vehicle motion control models in Matlab and Simulink, and deploying or maintaining the models in DSPACE rapid prototype systems
• 3 years of experience technically leading an engineering team developing new, state-of-the-art steering or braking technology on automobiles, and successfully deploying that technology into high-volume vehicle production
• 3 years of experience applying functional safety principles for safety-critical chassis control technologies
• Up to 40% travel required
• Must possess a tier 3 or equivalent license
