Ford’s Safety Electronics team designs and develops hardware and functional models that provide Best in Class behavior for features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Cross Traffic Alert, Active Park Assist and 360 Camera Systems.
This position is focused on the development of new sensor and ECU hardware. It could be a lidar, a driver monitoring camera, an infrared camera or a central Active safety ECU. We are seeking to add high quality people to the team rather than trying to squeeze engineers into a specific role.
Responsibilities:
Develop technologies and specifications for new ADAS hardware.
Develop and oversee test methods and plans for developments of new ADAS hardware.
Comply with Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Functional Safety, Quality History, P – Diagram, FMEA, etc)
Apply six sigma and 8D issue resolution processes
Conduct validation testing on components and subsystems on bench and at the breadboard and vehicle level.
Support the Sourcing Process (investment, piece price and tooling cost reviews)
Release parts through the product life cycle. Support Change Control meetings
Identify validation, durability and functional test required.
Define and verify engineering prototype requirements at part level.
Review/manage program design change requests.
Support prototype and vehicle launches.
Give technical assistance to supplier through the Supplier Engagement Process.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace or Control Systems or strongly related
3 years’ experience developing complex hardware in automotive or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters in Engineering or other advanced degree
Strong understanding and application of engineering disciplines (engineering specifications, design validation, failure mode analysis, 8D, six sigma, etc.)
Experience in safety systems
CAD packaging experience and/or experience in CATIA and Team Center
Operational knowledge of desktop productivity and CAD software
Understanding of production processes
Ability to quickly learn the job (with mentoring from others)
Ability to clearly and concisely communicate and interact with others, both oral and written
Ability to interface with many activities and champion issue resolution
Knowledgeable about ADAS functionality
Understanding/experience with the design & development of automotive electrical features
Knowledgeable about signal transfer and mechanical-electrical interfaces
Understanding of vehicle electrical systems and electrical design/development process
Understanding of circuit design and worst case circuit analysis
Familiar with CAN networking tools, diagnostic protocols, and trouble shooting
