Product Development Engineer positions offered by Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, MI). Conduct Li-ion battery performance and design verification (DV) testing. Verify safety of test setups dealing with high voltage battery packs. Guide laboratory technicians in setups and operation of various battery tests. Interpret Li-ion battery test standards and develop related automated test scripts to control tests systems and acquire data required. Create work instructions to guide team in the operation of test scripts. Responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of test equipment including software and hardware.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in mechanical engineering, materials science or a related technical field
  • 5 years of experience in the position offered or 5 years of experience working with instrumentation measurement systems including signal conditioning and transducers
  • 5 years of experience conducting data collection to ensure communication systems are working accurately in connection with system level measurement uncertainty, data analysis and reporting
  • 3 years of experience utilizing battery testing equipment, including AVL Lynx, Maccor, Bitrode or PEC
  • 3 years of experience performing battery testing for electrified vehicle powertrain and high voltage electrical system application
  • 3 years of experience performing instrumentation of internal components of Li ion battery cells or packs, including internal pack wiring, cell arrays, and battery management system control modules
  • 3 years of experience developing automation tools for controlling battery cycling devices and data acquisition systems
  • 2 years of experience analyzing physical battery behavior under abuse and normal cycle testing with risk analysis
  • 2 years of experience analyzing physical battery behavior to establish alarms, data acquisition methods, and error detection
  • 2 years of experience analyzing physical battery behavior to identify amperage & flow characteristics
  • 2 years of experience evaluating cycle life and safety of Li ion batteries including UN 38.3, USABC manuals, and SAE J2464
