Job Description
The Autonomous Vehicle Systems Engineering (AVSE) team is part of Ford’s Automated Driving organization and is responsible for system engineering and technical direction for Fords Automated Vehicle program. The AVSE group is seeking new team members to help develop safety analysis work products and/or diagnostic strategies for automated driving systems. Designing an Automated Driving Systems requires several new (non-typical) features/functions to be deployed by Vehicle. Successful candidates will be those who have the ability to operate in very dynamic environment and can handle a wide variety of tasks. They will be effective communicators, able to work with and pull together various work-streams throughout the company, and be willing to tackle a variety of evolving tasks.

Responsibilities:
  • Create and maintain all documentation needed to establish a safety case, including all work products from ISO 26262 Functional Safety starting from the Concept phase through the Production and Operation phase.
  • Support and contribute to safety & reliability analysis (e.g. FMEA, DFMEA, DFMEDA, FTA, STPA, etc.).
  • Collaborate and assist cross functional product development engineering teams to identify and close gaps to ensure component and system level safety compliance.
  • Assist in complex system level development of technical requirements for automated vehicles
  • Develop system level diagnostic and fault mitigation strategies
  • Develop complex vehicle architectures to ensure system safety
  • Prepare and present project status reports at team / management reviews
  • Establish yourself as the go-to person within the Autonomous Vehicle Systems Engineering team for assessing new technologies and strategies.
  • Support cross functional product development teams to identify the root cause for issues and facilitate appropriate exchange of knowledge

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 3+ years’ experience with electronic/electrical systems

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • Experience in systems engineering and system level interfaces
  • Experience applying the ISO 26262 standard to automotive safety systems or applying similar safety standards in non-automotive industry applications (e.g. IEC 61508, Industrial, Medical, Military, etc.)
  • Experience with fault detection and fault mitigation strategies
  • Working knowledge of Autonomous Systems and Technology
  • Systems modeling (SysML/MATLAB/Simulink) experience
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Self-motivated and willing to take responsibility to deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills
