Primary responsibility will be to provide direct patient care and medical treatment to employees with work-related injuries and illnesses. The physician will interact daily with safety professionals, workers’ compensation administrators, human resources and labor relations professionals, plant management team members and union representatives and employees. Candidates must be able to effectively communicate and interact with these individuals, as well as develop relationships of trust. Position Duties:
Injury/illness treatment and management of acute and chronic conditions
Appropriately manage work restrictions
Conduct job evaluations in the manufacturing environment
Perform OSHA and Company mandated surveillance exams
Perform fitness for duty evaluations
Perform return to work evaluations
Understand and conduct post-offer pre-placement exams
Be able to interpret audiograms and spirometry tests with knowledge of hearing conservation and respiratory protection programs
Be knowledgeable about and apply ADA and GINA rules
Understand for-cause drug screening programs
Be able to perform emergency intervention and stabilization if needed in an emergency situation
Current unrestricted license in Michigan or the ability to obtain a license to practice medicine in Michigan
Qualified candidate should have or be able to obtain Michigan drug control and Federal DEA licenses
Certified to perform or willing to become certified to perform DOT exams
Willing to work in a manufacturing environment, including shift work as required
Basic Qualifications:
Medical degree (MD or DO)
3+ years’ experience in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Occupational Medicine or Emergency Medicine
Preferred Qualifications:
Board certification in Occupational Medicine
Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine
Working knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records
Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, OSHA regulations and workplace health and safety concepts
Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong analytical and clinical skills
Familiar with Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations
