Job Description
Do you have an interest in research and development of advanced steering and chassis concepts for autonomous vehicles? We are looking for motivated people to tackle new challenges and work in a diverse team on exciting new chassis technologies. This Ford R&A Chassis Steering Function and Features position involves generation of new ideas and steering systems with support of computer modeling, hardware -in-the-loop, sensors and mechatronics systems. Upcoming projects will continue to push for improvements throughout chassis systems for Driving Dynamics and NVH performance as well as weight savings.

Responsibilities:
  • Research and development of new Steering Systems for Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) including Controls, supplier interaction and prototype work.
  • Translate customer and corporate needs and requirements to system, component and software requirements and specifications.
  • Use CAE, SIL, HIL, RCP for design and testing of new Steering functions and features for future SbW FBAs (Feed Back Actuators) and RWAs (Road Wheel Actuators).
  • Project management in close cooperation with other Ford Research & Advanced Engineering, Ford PD Chassis sites and select universities.
  • Documentation and presentation of project results including preparation of recommendations and decisions to be taken by the management team.
  • Identification and proposal of new research areas and projects in R&A Chassis, taking into account market trends, material developments, manufacturing advances, and information gathered at congresses and technical publications.
  • Communication with suppliers to identify new Steering technologies.


Required Qualifications:
  • BSEE/ME
  • 3+ years of experience with controls, sensors, actuators, mechatronics etc. relevant to autonomous systems.
  • 1+ years of experience in Chassis / Chassis Controls Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MSEE/ME
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a global team in different countries and time zones.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills.
  • One or more years of D&R experience with integrating sensor and mechanical systems.
  • Experience at developing an advanced technology project and getting it into serial production.
  • Successful candidate should be able to demonstrate leadership in One FORD (leadership) behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, team building, and communication skills.
  • Excellent people skills and the ability and desire to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Good knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics theory and Controls theory
  • Sound understanding of Steering Controls
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink/dSPACE
  • Prefer development and in vehicle tuning experience on control system algorithms
  • Prefer Vehicle network (CAN and CANalyzer/CANape) experience
  • System Engineering, FMEA, Robustness, Reliability experience
  • Experience with high volume product development and manufacturing processes.
