As fuel prices continue to rise, many drivers are moving away from SUVs and opting for cars and crossovers, but they're reluctant to part with the confidence of all-wheel drive (AWD). We're answering the call by expanding our lineup of AWD vehicles.
Reducing Wheel Slippage
All-wheel drive (AWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) help reduce wheel slippage and provide greater driver control by using the available traction at both the front and rear wheels to help keep the vehicle moving during slippery or wintry conditions.
Availability
SUVs and pickup trucks have long taken advantage of 4WD. In 2005, we began extending those advantages from SUVs, such as the Escape and the Explorer, to sedans and crossovers, with the introduction of the AWD Ford Five Hundred and Freestyle and Mercury Montego.
In addition to offering AWD or 4WD all SUVs and light trucks, including all Land Rovers, AWD is also offered on the following passenger cars and crossovers: the Ford Taurus, TaurusX, Fusion and Edge; the Mercury Sable and Milan; the Lincoln MKZ and MKX; the Jaguar X-Type; and the Volvo S40, S60, S80, V50, V70 and XC70. AWD is also offered in Australia on the Ford Falcon and Territory.
The AWD Fusion and Milan are the only vehicles in their segment to offer an AWD option.
