Ford Motor China January Sales Rise 20%

SHANGHAI, China, 10 Feb., 2011 – Ford Motor China achieved record sales in January with total sales of 53,340 units, an increase of 20% from January last year. The strong sales result was led by sales of Ford brand vehicles, which increased 15% year-over-year to reach 38,445 units, and sales of 14,895 JMC brand vehicles. 

Ford Focus, having sustained monthly sales of more than 10,000 units for 23 consecutive months, hit an all-time monthly high since its launch in 2005 with 19,734 units sold in January 2011, an increase of 22% from January last year.

Ford Fiesta, despite the removal of a tax incentive for small displacement vehicles, sold 7,135 units in January, a 1% increase from January last year, reaffirming that Chinese consumers appreciate its dynamic design, class-leading quality, safety and fuel efficiency. In January, the Fiesta received a maximum five-star safety rating in C-NCAP (China New Car Assessment Program).

Ford Edge, the popular mid-size SUV with the industry leading MyFord Touch driver connect technology powered by the voice-activated SYNC system, sold 470 units in its first month in China.  It went on sale in January and has earned six awards from leading auto and lifestyle media in China.

Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA), Ford Motor China's passenger vehicle joint-venture in China, sold 40,516 units in January 2011, including 31,904 Ford brand vehicles and 8,612 Mazda brand vehicles, on par with sales in January 2010, which was one of the peak months last year for the joint venture.

Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford's commercial vehicle partner in China, sold 20,966 units in January, an increase of 40% year-on-year. Ford Transit continues to lead the high-end light commercial vehicle segment with sales of 6,071 units in January, up 51% from January 2010.
