The selected candidate will be the Core Engineer responsible for a Bluetooth Low Energy interface and controller Module (BLEM), and its associated BLE transceiver Antennas Modules (BLEAMs) that, collectively, will be used on a global cross-vehicle basis in Ford and Lincoln nameplate vehicles. The BLEM will be responsible for vehicle network communication with anywhere from 1 to 12 BLE Antenna Modules (BLEAMs) that create a vehicle interface to off-board or on-board BLE based devices. The BLEM will also communicate with other vehicle modules such as the Body Control Module, Telematics Control Module, Sync Control Module, and other feature specific modules.

Responsibilities include:
  • Work with the BLE Module and Antenna suppliers to ensure the module meets all FMC and Bluetooth SIG requirements.
  • Understand all the expected BLE Use Cases customers may expect and ensure, as applicable, the sub-system design capability to support the Use Cases identified.
  • Translate project/product requirements and identify/determine feature and functional requirements/specifications, author additional requirements as needed, and communicate the requirements to the supplier.
  • Review supplier's SW development plan, SW architecture documentation, traceability between software work products/releases, and supplier's test plan & test results, etc. Provide Software project management to oversee the supplier’s software development and validation plan.
  • Lead the software validation of the BLE such-subsystem on bench, breadboard, and vehicle.
  • Drive resolution of complex intersystem and intrasystem software related issued between BLE modules, other modules on CAN, phone apps, and SDN.
  • Resolve issues and/or ambiguities found in specifications during the vehicle development cycle.
  • Work with supplier to align commodity to FMC NetCom, Diagnostics and Functional Safety requirements.
  • Review supplier’s software issue list, and ensure exceptions/limitations are well understood and communicated to program team prior to each vehicle build/SW release event.
  • Work with suppliers to perform containment review and risk assessment to ensure robust implementation of software issues found during development and production.
  • Verify that software deliverables align with vehicle program timing and EESE process to ensure supplier software quality launch.
  • Conduct software design review with Suppliers in accordance with Ford Product Development and Central Software processes.
  • Attend/Support Commodity PATs; support vehicle launch (as needed)
  • Continuously improve software process by enhancing requirements based on lessons learned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical with Electronic background)
  • 2+ years of experience in design and release of electronic control module for automotive OEM and / or for automotive Electronic Control Manufacturer
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience with vehicle CAN / LIN communication networks
  • 2+ years of experience in automotive connectivity solutions such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or Cellular
  • General understanding of Vehicle Cyber Security protocols and concepts
  • General understanding of vehicle to cloud connectivity: APN, VPN, TCP/IP stack, etc. with associated security elements like SSL, message level encryption, code signing, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with Automotive Safety Standards (i.e. ISO 26262) and Software development standards/processes (i.e. SPICE, CMMI)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Teamcenter VSEM, JIRA, and Github experience desired.
  • Familiarity with CANalyzer, AutoSar, and Functional Safety desired.
