Job Description
Ford Motor Company’s Upperbody Electronics organization delivers features and components that enable new and enhanced driver experiences. Our team utilizes industry leading technologies to improve the human-machine interface in multiple areas including Instrument Panel Cluster, Audio, Climate, Switches, and other advanced means of interaction.

The Design & Release engineer position is responsible for the application of these technologies into vehicle programs while delivering on commonality to drive scale and affordability.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and act as a single point of contact for the assigned component or feature, coordinating with multiple internal organizations and suppliers to deliver a high quality system that launches on-time and on-budget.
  • Evaluate Product Direction Letters to determine content and market variations.
  • Lead the Statement of Work (SOW) and Request for Quotation (RFQ) package completion.
  • Interface with Design Studio on concepts, engineering feasibility and Class A surface development.
  • Interface with the Electrical/Electronic Program Management team and support program deliverables. (Integrator, ASAP, AVBOM, VSEM, FIP...).
  • Conduct Technical Design Reviews with interfacing Ford activities, Core Electrical/Electronic Systems Engineering, and supplier engineering (software, hardware, mechanical, etc..).
  • Lead program specific Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA).
  • Vehicle build support (Bill of Materials validation, Breadboards, prototype and production launches as needed).
  • Manage engineering changes.
    Design Change Requests (DCRs), Engineering, Development and Testing Expense (ED&T), Chief Engineer reviews and approvals, and part releasing processes (AVBOM CMF, WERS, Change Control).
  • Support vehicle testing in wind tunnels, road trips and other test environments when necessary.
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic or related disciplines
  • 2+ years of application experience in engineering disciplines (engineering specifications, requirements management, design validation, change management, root cause and failure mode analysis, 8D, six sigma, etc.)
  • 1+ years of experience in vehicle electrical systems and electrical design/development process
  • 2+ years of experience with CAN networking tools, diagnostic protocols, and troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a D&R role involving electronic controllers and embedded software
  • 2+ Years of experience with vehicle diagnostic tools
  • 2+ years of experience with Ford Product Development tools and processes (WERS, AVBOM, eFDVS, GPDS & Global Integrator, VSEM etc.)
  • Understanding of the Studio FC process and deliverables and the Decorative Part approval process.
