Position Overview/Description:

Greenfield Labs is a cutting edge research lab within Ford located in Silicon Valley that is focused on innovation in both the automotive and mobility businesses. We are exploring the role of advanced embedded computing platforms, coupled with cloud-based services, to deliver applications which will redefine the experience of owning, maintaining, driving and interacting with Ford Motor Company vehicles. Security needs to be built into each of these growing technologies. The ideal candidate will have outstanding security design analytical skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. We are looking for an exceptionally creative, motivated and talented individual to collaborate extensively within Ford and with external partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute on full lifecycle of prototypes from ideation, design, coding and hand-off of prototypes to implementation; may own features partially into development phases.
  • Develop and advise on execution of security implementations for R&A/Mobility proof-of-concepts and innovation experiments.
  • Perform vendor evaluation, competitive analyses and author management reports with a point of view.
  • Connect with Silicon Valley start-ups, academia, government, industry and meet-ups to maintain and share knowledge of emerging technologies and ideate on potential research experiments.
  • Prepare presentations, document learnings, disseminate reports, file invention disclosures.
  • Execute threat models for various research activities taking place on site.
  • Limited travel expected to cover critical Cybersecurity Conferences or meet with home base in Dearborn

Job Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years of proven track record in cybersecurity either by coursework (graduate level specialization) or professional experience.
  • 1+ year Embedded experience and/or in-vehicle software development.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters or PhD in Security.
  • Security Certifications (CISSP, CISA, CEH, etc.).
  • Mobile application development experience. Connected devices or Mobile Cloud experience greatly preferred.
  • Threat modeling and secure coding practices, processes and methods.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with general IT security and architecture concepts, processes and methods.
  • Strong record of delivering projects in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including external presentations (conferences, meet-ups, etc.) and internal briefings to executive and senior management.
  • Working knowledge of Identity and Access Management (IAM) best practices.
  • Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning concepts.
  • Experience with transportation services.
  • Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of digital communication technologies: TCP/IP, Ethernet, Bluetooth, WiFi, Cellular, DSRC.
  • Experience in one or more of these areas:
    • Programming experience (C/C++/CS/Python/Lua/Qt).
    • Knowledge with common programming frameworks such as .NET, Android SDK, and/or iOS SDK.
    • Familiarity with in-vehicle network architecture, modules, and protocols (CAN etc.) are a plus
    • Penetration testing (hardware, SDR/RF) and tools experience is a plus.
