In Ford Motor Company’s Head-Up Display engineering organization, we create and industrialize innovative virtual image display technologies to enable new, enhanced driver experiences. Our HUDs offer best-in-class performance in brightness and image quality, and use the newest industry leading technologies, while delivering on commonality to drive scale and affordability.

This Design & Release engineer position is focused on the application and industrialization of new HUDs into vehicle programs. The engineer is expected to lead and manage these development projects, coordinating all the various internal organizations and suppliers that together co-create a high quality HUD system that launches on-time and on-budget.

To fill this position, Ford is seeking a highly motivated leader who leverages existing knowledge and experience to quickly pick up new skills and knowledge. Must be comfortable with communication in large forums and be able to simplify and communicate complex concepts. This individual should have experience working cross-functionally with an ability to quickly build rapport and relationships. This individual should also have a demonstrated history of success leading complex projects with suppliers.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead D&R activities for program, including responsibility for costs and weight, funding, program deliverables tracking, part releases, prototype builds, launch support, etc.
  • Lead interface with supplier partners
  • Lead weekly program management meetings and technical design reviews
  • Lead HW & SW development;
  • Interface with SW engineering to track timing and development status, and lead SW design reviews
  • Lead HUD packaging effort, partnering with Body Interior, Body Exterior, Design Studio, Manufacturing, Service, and all other interfacing organizations;
  • Work closely with glass team and studio to balance performance tradeoffs
  • Coordinate feature development with HMI/UX development team
  • Work closely with HUD core team for specification deployment, validation and testing

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines
  • 5+ years’ experience in project management and leading complex engineering developments

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ year experience with HUD Systems Design
  • Strong knowledge and application experience of engineering disciplines (engineering specifications, requirements management, design validation, change management, failure mode analysis, 8D, six sigma, etc.)
  • Experience and knowledge in HUD system design
  • Knowledge of opto-mechanical systems
  • Operational knowledge of desktop productivity and CAD software
  • Understanding of production processes
  • Experience with the design & development of automotive electrical features
  • Understanding of vehicle electrical systems and electrical design/development process.
  • Familiarity with CAN networking tools, diagnostic protocols, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to quickly learn the job (with mentoring from others)
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate and interact with others, both oral and written
  • Ability to interface with many activities and champion issue resolution
