Job Description Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering organization is looking for a highly qualified candidate to join our team in developing vehicle controls for a variety of exciting technologies. Our team is responsible for conducting research in advanced vehicle controls and optimization that will result in new and innovative features for our customers. We conduct research, often working with academic partners, to develop novel ideas into innovative technologies that are transferred to production programs. Our work supports Ford Motor Company globally as part of a diverse team of System, Control and Software engineering specialists who apply their knowledge to a broad range of vehicle control projects including Powertrain, Chassis/Brakes, Electrification, Electrical, Safety, as well as product development techniques and strategies. We work on challenging technical problems and deliver innovative, effective, and industry-leading solutions.
Job Responsibilities:
Research and development of advanced control techniques such as model predictive control, adaptive control, optimal control, and intelligent control enabling innovative automotive technologies and in-vehicle features.
Research and development of robust optimization algorithms that meet customer requirements for a wide range of complex global automotive applications.
Analysis of system behavior and plant modeling.
Signal processing, including real-time data processing from onboard systems, as well as cloud and vehicle-to-vehicle based sources.
Control of autonomous vehicles
Support development and testing of prototype systems and methods.
Development and leadership of research portfolios (internal research and work with university partners).
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or related technical degree
5+ years of experience in Fields of optimal / adaptive / predictive controls
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or similar with emphasis on control systems
Familiarity with the methods for optimization and optimal control, including MPC and stochastic optimal control
Familiarity with the methods of machine learning
Experience with C, Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow, Real Time Workshop, dSpace.
Experience with embedded algorithms
Experience with hardware implementation of advanced algorithms
Familiarity with the basics of computational intelligence, and specifically evolutionary computing, is a plus
Excellent problem solving skills, innovative thinking, and passion for automotive engineering
Excellent written/oral communications
Proven ability to work well with others as part of a diverse global team
