Job Description Lead or support the invention and creation of new enabling Vision based Technologies, Electrical Features, or Electrical Systems for use in Ford Motor global vehicle applications. The selected candidate will work closely with existing staff to progress and mature new projects through the Ford Motor Global Technology Development System (GTDS) and ensure deliverables to the downstream Electrical & Electronics Systems Engineering (EESE) organization are compliant with expected requirements and deliverables.
Responsibilities include:
Invent, propose, and create new concepts as part of our GTDS Discovery Process.
Lead development of these concepts, or support other projects, to mature the concepts through the GTDS readiness assessment milestones and ensure deliverables are achieved by appropriate milestones.
Create working prototypes to demonstrate the feature/concept or a significant aspect of the design. This is a strategic step in the GTDS process but also key in securing feature approval a vehicle customer.
Key deliverables the candidate will support or lead include development of the Engineering specification (ES), Software Functional Specification (FS), Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) review of known problems from similar surrogate features, Parameter mapping of design “noise” factors (P-diagram), and development of the Design Verification Plan (DVP).
Candidate will work closely with downstream EESE application engineers during the feature hand-off transition period.
Must effectively interface with various organizations (EESE, Body Engineering, Ergonomics, HMI, Design Studio, Planning, Marketing, Purchasing, Automotive Safety, and the Quality Office) to support development of sound new feature business cases and monitor the business case health throughout development.
Develop relationships with the supply base to learn about the latest technologies and possible implementations.
Required Qualifications:
BS Engineering, Computer Science or related disciplines.
2+ years of experience with camera based technologies and/or Automotive or Military Electrical Systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong understanding of vehicle electrical systems (automotive or military).
Strong understanding of key reliability & robustness disciplines (P-diagram, FMA, FMEA, and DVP).
Demonstrated ability to write a functional specification.
Preferred Qualifications: (Experience in as many of the following areas as possible is highly preferred)
MS or Doctorate in Electrical Engineering or related disciplines.
Imaging Technologies (cameras, video processing, and displays).
Sensor fusion experience.
Strong understanding of vehicle electrical systems.
Ford GTDS Deliverables experience a plus.
Ford EESE D&R experience a plus.
Ford Launch experiences a plus.
