Position Duties This is an opportunity to participate in the development of Ford’s autonomous vehicles. The Autonomous Vehicle Systems Engineering Department is responsible for all systems engineering and technical direction for Ford’s autonomous vehicles. Within that department, the Autonomous Vehicle Platform Section is responsible for the adaptation and integration of various Ford vehicle platforms with advanced Virtual Driver Systems and other new AV technologies.
The rigorous demands of autonomous vehicles require the development and deployment of advanced electronic hardware, software designs, and sophisticated control strategies. Engineers in this section are responsible for:
Engineering analyses of new subsystems, electronic and mechanical components, control strategies, and related items for autonomous vehicles
Leveraging model based engineering methods to architect, define, and analyze complex systems involving a mix of hardware and controls for new AV technologies
Working jointly with cross-functional teams in the adaptation of existing vehicle subsystems and components for autonomous vehicle applications
Leading cross-function technical design reviews for (1) and (2)
Leading the development of AVP engineering deliverables, including requirement specifications (for vehicles, subsystems, and components), ideal functions, FMEAs, DVPs, and related items
Support the functional safety processes
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science.
1+ years’ experience in the design and development of automotive electrical and electronic systems and/or components
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related disciplines
Experience developing complex/distributed systems
Experience in verification techniques (DVMs, Data Acquisition/Analysis)
Understanding of typical vehicle communication protocols/interfaces: CAN, CANFD, LIN, MOST, LVDS, Automotive Ethernet, etc.
Prior experience in the development of Ford engineering deliverables, including requirement specifications, FMEAs, engineering statements-of-work, design verification plans, and DVP&Rs
Prior experience with Ford vehicle development processes and tools, including GPDS, WERS, supplier management, 8Ds, 5Ds, and related items
Experience in systems integration, vehicle testing, and vehicle launch is a plus
