Job Description

Ford Motor Company is at a turning point in its 100+ year history. Major new technologies like powertrain electrification, vehicle connectivity, and automated driving are being rapidly introduced into our products. In addition, many traditional mechanical systems are becoming electrically enabled. Taken together, these changes are substantially increasing the complexity of many systems in our vehicles. As a central element of the electrical architecture, the electrical distribution system is a major contributor to cost, weight, and packaging complexity. Ford sees many opportunities to leverage ongoing revolutions in materials, manufacturing, and electronics technologies to create new EDS solutions that will address challenges. Job Description

  • Lead development of the Advanced EDS component and architecture technology roadmap
  • Support development and delivery of Advanced EDS portfolio of projects to the production team in areas such as:
o New material applications (aluminum alloys, nanomaterials, etc.) for EDS systems and components
o Power switching and circuit protection technologies
o New connection systems for improved ergonomics, material optimization, and size
o EDS system design for future electrical architecture optimization
  • Align with other internal technology roadmaps to ensure EDS compatibility
  • Benchmark EDS-related technologies in automotive and other industries
  • Develop mitigation plan to address growth of EDS systems and alleviate cost and packaging growth related to automotive macro drivers like electrification, connectivity, and automated driving
  • Explore new EDS technologies by defining, initiating and conducting research investigations both internally and in conjunction with suppliers and universities
  • Publish research findings in internal and external forums, as appropriate


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience wiring or connector design or electrical systems development experience (3 years experience for MS or Ph.D. candidates)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS or Ph.D.
  • Knowledge of automotive electrical distribution system materials, electrical characteristics, and mechanical designs
  • Strong knowledge and experience with systems engineering processes
  • Strong relationships with key industry EDS suppliers. Ability to identify and collaborate with emerging EDS technology companies
  • Ability to identify opportunities for collaborative research at universities and maintain a portfolio of projects
  • Experience developing new technologies including patent generation
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience in producing high-quality technical reports and presentations
