Ford Crown Victoria Police Vehicle Goes Green

With more than 80 percent of the market, we're the largest producer and seller of police vehicles. As police and government agencies move toward, becoming more environmentally conscious and seeking alternative fuel vehicles for their fleets, we're well positioned to help our police customers go green.

Flexible Fuel Police Vehicles

To help police fleets go green, our new 2008 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor will be offered as a flexible fuel vehicle (FFV). FFVs can operate on E85 ethanol fuel, gasoline or a combination of the two.

Government agencies that include FFV Police Interceptors on their annual U.S. Department of Energy plan can receive credits toward Energy Policy Act (EPAct) mandates, increasing their flexibility in vehicle fleet selection and purchases.

50-State Certification

We have achieved 50-state certification for all Ford and Mercury 2008 FFV passenger models, which include Ford F-150, Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis.

Achieving 50-state certification means our FFVs meet emissions rules set by both the federal government and by the state of California. The evaporative standards in California create some unique challenges for FFVs. By certifying to both sets of standards, we can sell our vehicles nationwide and reduce complexity.

Flexible Fuel and a Flexible Fleet

We've already put more than 2 million FFVs on the road and pledged to make half our vehicle production capable of running on alternative fuels by 2012, provided the necessary fuel and infrastructure are in place.

In addition to our FFVs, fleets looking to go green can also choose from two hybrid models, Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner, as well as a number of Ford PZEV (partial zero emissions vehicle) models.
