LAND ROVER DEBUTS NEW GENERATION OF VEHICLES AT 2008 NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

Land Rover LRX Concept

NEW YORK, March 19, 2008 – Land Rover, the world’s leading sport utility vehicle manufacturer, comes to New York with a wide range of models, including the first 2009 model year Land Rovers in the U.S., a new version of its LRX concept vehicle, and a fully equipped G4 Challenge LR3.

LRX
Land Rover shows a new version of its three-door LRX concept to highlight its suitability for contemporary personalization. This new black and silver version uses lightweight material technologies to add to the vehicle's individuality and flexibility.

"With its metallic black paintwork, silver roof and precisely detailed exterior features, this second version of the LRX concept (an all-white version was shown at the Detroit Show in January 2008) is designed to demonstrate how well the LRX can deliver a contemporary example of personalization", says Gerry McGovern, Land Rover's design director.

The removable carbon composite roof panel contrasts with the silver-colored roof, and has integral anchor points for fixing snowboards and other sports equipment. The sleek black roof bars provide another option for roof-top loads, and a compact step above the rear bumper provides for easy roof-top access. More carbon composite is used for the protective underbody plates at the front and rear together with new, lightweight alloy wheels that are unique to the LRX concept, signaling purposefulness. And to protect the LRX when the going gets tough - in either urban or off-road situations - there are smart, resilient moldings on the bumpers and sills.

Land Rover G4 Challenge
Land Rover has a lasting heritage of adventure, with one of the best known expeditions run in 1970 when two Range Rovers became the first vehicles to complete a land crossing of the Darien Gap swamplands that divide North America from South America. The Land Rover G4 Challenge was inaugurated in 2003, when Belgian fighter pilot Rudi Thoelen emerged victorious from a cliff hanging finale in Moab, Utah. The next Challenge, in 2006, went deep into rugged, remote locations in Thailand, Laos, Brazil and Bolivia, coming to an end at an altitude of over 13,000 feet with South African Martin Dreyer emerging victorious.
