Ever since she was a child, Krissy Guzak has focused on doing whatever she can to improve the world around her. “Growing up I was always kind of an environmentalist. You know, I liked recycling and learning more about the environment, playing outside, and just always looking for ways to make life a little bit better.”
Her desire to help the environment now extends to her career as an environmental compliance engineer in the Environmental Quality Office at Ford. This position is multifaceted, requiring Krissy to wear many hats. “I work on a handful of things, but my two main responsibilities are acting as the plant waste subject matter expert and maintaining the paint emissions reporting system.”
Krissy’s versatility is ideal for someone in her role. One day she might be working to improve waste management capabilities in expendable packaging, and the next she’s visiting plants to help address environmental regulatory questions. The ability to be involved in so many projects is something that drew her to the company. “One of the things that really made me want to apply to Ford was the fact that it’s such a large company. And I know that sounds a little crazy, but it’s the fact I thought that I could make a difference at a large company in a broad way … I could do something on a small scale and it could be replicated at all of our facilities.”

On top of her day-to-day tasks, Krissy was accepted into the Ford “Thirty Under 30” nonprofit developmental leadership program. This exclusive program connects promising young leaders with nonprofits to foster civic engagement and leadership skills while also making an impact on their communities. “With that program, I’ve gotten to combine my personal interests with Ford’s interests. They want to develop a leadership team that can help the nonprofit sector that Ford partners with already, to learn how to engage millennials on a more regular basis.”
Krissy’s job requires a massive amount of forward thinking, and right now her main focus is on the future. Whether she’s bettering her community through local nonprofits or helping to make one of the largest automotive companies in the world more environmentally sustainable, she’s ensuring that future generations will be able to enjoy the world around them. “Being part of such a large corporation, we have the ability to reduce our environmental footprint in so many ways … I look forward to what the world will look like in the future because we’re finding a way to solve the problems we have created in the past.”
