Position Overview

The Greenfield Labs team is working to transform the urban transportation experience using human-centered design. Housed within Ford Smart Mobility LLC, Greenfield Labs is a small but highly capable and fast-moving team designing, developing, shipping and testing new products and services that help people make the best of multimodal transportation systems in cities around the world. We are looking for candidates to join us this summer in our journey to deliver ground-breaking products and services that support the meaningful movement of humans in cities.

The Transportation Planning intern position is a versatile role suited to candidates who enjoy approaching a wide variety of transportation problems within a small multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have some experience in transportation policy and research as well as local community building. As a Transportation Planning intern at Greenfield Labs, you will have the opportunity to assist in building a case for human-centered city infrastructure and mobility options. You will work closely with a small team of researchers, designers, and engineers.

Position Responsibilities
  • Seek and relay inspiration about how people currently use public space and existing transportation options
  • Design, synthesize, and present thoughtful frameworks portraying potential transportation futures and human-centered street & movement design
  • Brainstorm creative solutions for meaningful interaction between movement, public space, and local communities
  • Work cross-functionally with product research teams
Job Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Design or a related field
  • 1+ year experience with various computer software programs, such as Microsoft Office and Internet applications (e.g., Google Docs)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic understanding of transportation planning, research, and analysis principles
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for brainstorming, creative thinking, and participatory design
  • Self-starter with penchant for working both independently and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
  • Completed transportation planning portfolio projects or equivalent work experience
  • 1+ years of experience developing community empathy and/or outreach
