Job Summary:
Ford Motor Company is seeking highly self-motived and curious individuals who are interested in the field of biometrics, specifically in multi biometric fusion and computational confidence scoring systems. The ideal individual loves to solve challenging problems and will not stop until a solution meets all the requirements. Attention to detail is imperative. The individual can work independently as well as collaboratively with a diverse and talented group of internal researchers, engineers, and inventors and external biometric vendors/startups.

This position is located at the Ford Research and Innovation Center, a technology research facility in Palo Alto, California. The center focuses on cutting-edge technologies and development of Autonomous Vehicles, IoT/Connectivity, Software, and Mobility innovations.
Responsibilities:

  • Define, develop, analyze and optimize new and existing biometric fusion algorithms and schemes for multimodal verification systems
  • Lead technical and algorithmic integration of multiple biometric modalities for real-time user authentication
  • Design and implement biometric performance evaluation methods and confidence scoring systems
  • Develop and deploy anti-spoofing measures
  • Identify, investigate, and recommend leading-edge physical and behavioral biometric technologies that produce optimal solutions for our customers’ requirements
  • Periodic support on research and development related to biometric authentication
  • Review biometric literature and emerging technologies and continuously survey and summarize relevant community research to host IP ideation sessions
Required Qualifications:
  • Masters or pursuing PhD in Computer Science or related field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience; experience with multi biometric systems, information fusion with biometrics, and/or confidence scoring systems, biometrics standards and standard biometric data
  • 2+ years of software development experience
  • 2+ years of experience with Python, Matlab, C, C++, or C#
  • Desire and ability to work in a rapid development environment
  • Possess strong technical communication skills (both verbal and written) and be able to apply these skills to convey technical details to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work independently, to take initiative, and be an effective team member

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in real-time localization, object detection, and extrapolating measurements from images
  • Strong analytical capability to design and develop complex systems
  • Desire and ability to work in a rapid development environment
  • Possess strong technical communication skills (both verbal and written) and be able to apply these skills to convey technical details to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work independently, to take initiative, and be an effective team member
  • Thorough understanding and experience with support vector machines (SVM) and principal component analysis (PCA)
  • 1+ years embedded software design and development experience
  • Experience with Database applications, biometric vendors, sensors, creating prototypes user interfaces
  • Experience with technical writing –white papers, user manuals, development practices
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of image and signal processing or computer vision
  • Background in sensing, semiconductor physics, optics, product testing and evaluation
  • Expertise in Camera Systems, image/video/signal processing, pattern recognition, computer vision, machine learning, and statistical analysis
  • Advanced knowledge in multiple camera systems, 3D imaging, focal stack imaging, light field imaging are of interest.
  • Expertise in 3d geometry. Experience with 2d feature matching, and tracking
  • Excellent applied math skills in linear algebra and linear and non-linear optimization
  • Experience reading and implementing research papers
