Ford Research and Advanced Engineering is expanding fuel cell development activities at its Dearborn Research and Innovation Center and is seeking an experienced PEM fuel cell stack prototyping and manufacturing engineer. The position will focus on the development of advanced prototyping and volume manufacturing processes for stack components and assembly. Responsibilities:
· Develop enhanced fabrication processes for prototype MEAs from purchased CCMs, GDLs, frames, fuel cell stacks, and seal materials
· Oversee/manage build and assembly of prototype short and full fuel cell stacks
· Maintain prototype Bill of Materials and Bill of Process documentation
· Establish prototyping lab and facilities at Ford
· Oversee/manage post testing stack tear down and characterization
· Conduct joint manufacturing R&D with stack and stack component suppliers
· Support assessment of supplier stack manufacturing capabilities
Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
· 3+ years’ experience fuel cell stack and MEA prototyping and manufacturing experience with a major automotive manufacturer or as part of a major automotive manufacturer joint venture
Preferred Requirements:
· Solid understanding of PEM fuel cell fundamentals
· Familiarity with measuring equipment and techniques for fuel cell components and stacks
· Computer skills, i.e. Excel, MS Project, etc…
· Familiarity with fuel cell volume manufacturing processes
· Knowledge of manufacturing quality processes and APQP
· Experience with Six Sigma methodologies desired
· Team player with strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively in collaborative environment
· Strong written and oral communication skills
