PEM Membrane Scientist

>Ford Research and Advanced Engineering is expanding fuel cell development activities at its Dearborn Research and Innovation Center and is seeking an experienced PEM membrane scientist. The position will focus on membrane performance and durability characterization research. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly qualified and motivated research scientist to join a diverse team of researchers tasked with shaping and delivering Ford’s future product strategy for fuel cell technology.

Responsibilities

• Establish laboratory test capability for membrane characterization
• Develop test methods to quantify membrane performance and durability characteristics
• Develop first principle and empirical models for mechanical and chemical membrane degradation
• Develop membrane hydration technical requirements and interface with BOP team
• Conduct supplier leveraged product research and collaboration on existing and advanced membrane technologies
• Stay abreast of relevant scientific and technical literature, actively participate in external scientific community
  
  

• Master of Science in Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science
• 5+ years of relevant PEM membrane research and development experience with a major automotive manufacturer or as part of a major automotive manufacturer joint venture

• Recognized expertise by supply base and external technical community, evidence through patents and publications
• Strong understanding and knowledge of PEM MEA, electrochemistry, and fuel cell design
• Experience with Six Sigma methodologies desired
• Team player with strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively in collaborative environment
• Strong oral and written communication skills
