Ford Research and Advanced Engineering is expanding fuel cell development activities at its Dearborn Research and Innovation Center and is seeking experienced PEM fuel cell stack testing engineers. The positions will focus on the design, development, and execution of fuel cell stack validation protocols and methods. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly qualified and motivated engineer to join a diverse team of researchers tasked with shaping and delivering Ford’s future product strategy for fuel cell technology.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute fuel cell stack component and module tests, ensuring quality of results
  • Conduct data analyses, prepare test reports and present findings to project team
  • Design and develop new test protocols and diagnostic tools/methods
  • Ensure proper maintenance of test equipment and facilities
  • Experienced with in-situ fuel cell test facilities (subscale, full scale and fuel cell module test stand)
  • Diagnose equipment faults and coordinate/conduct equipment repairs
  • Participate as an active member of project teams
  • Provide guidance and oversight of test technicians

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of fuel cell testing experience with a major automotive manufacturer or as part of a major automotive manufacturer joint venture
Preferred Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of fuel cell test equipment and protocols
  • Strong understanding of PEM fuel cell fundamentals
  • Six sigma methodologies or experience with experimental methods such as DOE, Gauge R&R, 8D, robustness tools, DVP&R, and statistical analysis
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively in collaborative environment
  • Test station programming skills (eg: Labview)
