Job Description We are looking for an Industrial Designer to join our UX team to set future experience visions for physical design and create prototypes to guide and advance experience innovation for Ford’s global vehicles. The Industrial Designer should have an understanding of user-centered design, be self-directed, detail-oriented, and exhibit a high level of professionalism. Portfolio demonstrating qualifications is requested at the time of application.
From global customer insights (qualitative and quantitative, trends and contextual deep dives) you will work with multidisciplinary teams to translate findings into action by exploring and sketching concepts; and then support the creation of fully expressed visions. Prototypes will be of varying degrees of fidelity, from rough sketches, to storyboards, to interactive models, to drivable interactive prototypes and will cover a variety of topic areas and initiatives such as digital and physical interactions, connectivity, intelligent systems, mobility, and more. The Industrial Designer should have excellent Photoshop and basic 3D skills. You will envision dynamic future realities that brings the concept to life through sketches, storyboards, and stunning imagery. The artwork will range from rough sketches to artwork of the highest possible visual fidelity to demonstrate future transportation concepts. Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with interaction designers and visual designers from the Global UX Team to create a holistic hardware/software design language
Contribute to setting experience vision and creating Visual Imagery and prototypes to express product/physical experiences in and around the vehicle.
Conceive, design, and create 3-D model prototypes of cars with new interaction paradigms, physical control concepts and digital display integration.
Collaborate closely with interaction designers and visual designers from the Global UX Team to create a holistic hardware/software design language.
Contribute to developing and refining industrial design best practices and processes.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design or related design field
2+ years of work experience as an industrial / product designer – physical + digital, automotive
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with creative tools including Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Final Cut, and 3D Animation or similar packages as well as familiarity with various development platforms.
Experience using digital and physical prototyping methods, practices, and tools.
Proven track record of delivering quality design work in dynamic, diverse, fast paced environments across multiple projects on schedule.
High energy and passion for understanding consumer technology trends, safety, mobile technology enablers, autonomous vehicles, interaction paradigms and convergent experiences.
Expertise in visual communication and knowledge of efficient, focused techniques with a deep understanding of lighting, composition and mood, and a strong sense of design.
