Position Description:

Application Policy Services (APS) is a Ford IT application that provides a suite of Enterprise Authorization & Access Management services supporting 350+ applications worldwide. The solution, consisting of several components (mix of home-grown and industry provided) that have continued to expand to cater to business needs to enable Ford Motor Company to participate in the larger identity ecosystem emerging on the internet by supporting multiple identity providers and allowing application access to span across users communities in Business to Consumer (B2C), Business to Business (B2B) and Enterprise.

The team is looking for the top technical talent with the Enterprise mindset, interested in advancing their knowledge of internet security, learning and working with core Identity and Access Management technologies (XACML, SAML, OAuth/Open ID Connect), and is able to develop working prototypes of the new ideas/capabilities, by coding during technical workshops or on the job that involve various Ford teams as well as vendors. Such prototypes are expected to become APS product features in production.

Responsibilities:

Lead Software Engineering / Development function for the APS application and its components; Ensure implementation of the functional/non-functional requirements to deliver the final solution/service; Responsible for developing solutions & services aligned with Ford IT standards, procedures, security, and policies; Apply Java and Architecture standards appropriately during the development process for solutions & services; Provide input to architecture related discussions and decisions; Ensure solutions/services adhere to IT principles such as optimizing the system design for functional performance, supportability, usability, security, and auditability to support Critical Success Factors (CSF) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI); Report status of user stories including status, risks and mitigation plans, issues and resolution.

Work closely with Application Management (production support) team on deployment plans and production issues; Face-off with Business Analysts, Usability Designers, Architects, Application teams, Infrastructure and Vendor teams to install, test and implement solutions. Guide other developers on the team by answering technical questions to build quality code; Help distribute coding work among developers in alignment with their skills and experiences to improve overall effectiveness of the team; Participate in and support resource acquisition process (role description, interviewing, decision making); Help develop and execute transition plans for resources changes; Provides input and helps identify training needs of Application Development team members.

Develop and execute Data Center of the Future (DCoF) implementation plans. Support cycle plan & business plan development for the APS toolset in collaboration with other stakeholders; Provide input on project SEER estimation and project complexity and risk assessments.


This is an opportunity to work on Global Enterprise Level Application with high visibility and business value to meet emerging needs. Gain experience in working with a global team by developing web services, screen interfaces and back-end processes using Java and DCOF platforms. Build expertise in security and controls, access provisioning and federated authorization. Work on projects that impact multiple Product Lines and Skills Teams.

Job Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in coding and translating strategic concepts into Proof of Concept (POC) solutions to support feasibility studies
  • 1+ years of experience with agile development methodology
  • 3+ years’ Java/J2EE development skillset including use of code debugging tools.
Preferred Experience:
  • Test driven development, test automation & paired programming
  • Experience with Linux OS & server infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server, Oracle, .NET, C#, XML technologies
  • Familiarity with utilizing tools such as GitHub, Selenium, Jenkins, uBuild, Sonar Cube, Rally, etc.
  • Knowledge of Vmware & Windows OS
  • Good understanding of cloud platforms and architecture
  • Working experience with access management processes and technologies
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willing to quickly adapt new development technologies, tools and processes (e.g. Agile, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Software Craftsmanship, Test Automation, Test Driven Development)
  • Proactively take steps to address project roadblocks and issues
  • Ability to build relationships with individuals and teams
  • Aptitude for being organized and for delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
