Safety Sensor Engineer positions offered by Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, MI). Work with Safety Occupant Development engineers and Design & Release engineers to develop feasible solutions that ensure occupant performance meets safety requirements. Work on the calibration that decides if and when the airbags deploy in a crash event. Exercise responsibility for both a vehicle program and general core work involved in creating test plans, performing testing, leading calibration tradeoff discussions, and documenting strategy. Perform test planning, test plan optimization, and design of experiments. Perform the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of multiple data acquisition systems. Drive prototype vehicles for data acquisition and plot and analyze data. Create and maintain timing plans to meet engineering milestones. Develop sensing and control algorithms/calibrations for global passive safety market, including front, side, rollover, fuel cutoff, and pedestrian protection crash events.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or a related field
3 years of experience in the position offered or 3 years of experience calibrating or overseeing calibration of automotive sensing systems, including the development of 2 or more ECE and FMVSS compliant airbag deployment calibrations.
3 years of experience developing Front, Side, Rollover, and Fuel Cutoff algorithms
3 years of experience requesting, monitoring and troubleshooting vehicle level tests at an automotive crash barrier facility
2 years of experience writing engineering specifications
2 years of experience optimizing engineering test procedures
2 years of experience authoring and implementing test plans to develop airbag calibrations
1 year of experience using Matlab
