Job Description
The powertrain software validation engineer tests Ford’s latest gas/ hybrid engine and transmission control strategies on a dSPACE Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulator using a combination of internally/externally developed plant models. This is an exciting and challenging environment as Ford Motor Company keeps increasing the amount of development and validation using analytical methods.
Collaborate with control system engineers to create hardware in the loop (HIL)-specific test cases to determine proper function of powertrain Control software
Configure and validate HIL I/O circuits and custom wiring harness function that interface to the PCM (powertrain control module)
Tune engine plant model for specific powertrain
Verify vehicle model stability and performance under various vehicle operating conditions
Work closely with calibration engineers and control system engineers to troubleshoot issues found during testing
Maintain HIL system operation - plant models, system hardware, user interfaces, and test automation tools
Lead issue resolution of issues uncovered during software validation
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s of Science degree with a technical specialization.
3+ years’ experience in testing and debugging automotive / aerospace embedded systems software
2+ years’ experience with HIL hardware and software
1+ year experience scripting of automated tests or automated data analysis
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Science Engineering
2+ years’ experience with development or testing of combustion engines
1 year experience with plant modeling and simulation
Matlab/ Simulink experience
Python programming experience
Experience with object-oriented languages such as Java, C#, or Visual Basic
Outstanding interpersonal skills
Excellent problem solving techniques
Highly motivated/ self-starter
