WHAT WE DO

AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES

Ford is building a commercial self-driving service for ride-hailing and goods delivery starting in Austin, TX, Miami, FL and Washington, D.C. with plans to scale. To do this, Ford is bringing together all the complex pieces needed to launch a scalable, successful self-driving service: this includes the self-driving system we are developing with our technology partner Argo AI, integrated into our Ford Escape Hybrid vehicle platform, a thoughtful customer experience across all touchpoints, physical infrastructure in the cities where we operate, as well as working with ride-hailing and delivery demand partners to bring our service to customers. This is just the beginning of our journey.

FORD'S APPROACH TO DEVELOPING AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES

Ford issued a comprehensive report to the U.S. Department of Transportation outlining the way we approach autonomous vehicle development with trust as our guiding principle. Our report, A Matter of Trust 2.0 highlights how we are safely operating our autonomous vehicles on the road, our autonomous history and more.

Supporting C-V2X

C-V2X

C-V2X is a wireless communication technology that can “talk” to and “listen” for similarly equipped vehicles, people and traffic management infrastructure such as traffic lights to relay important information and help make city mobility safer and less congested. Planned alongside the rapidly building 5G cellular network, C-V2X also enables direct communication between vehicles and connected devices such as a pedestrian’s smartphone, meaning a signal doesn’t need to first travel to a cellular tower, allowing quicker information flow. Ultimately, it lets drivers know what’s ahead of them even before they have to encounter it.

"THE AUTO INDUSTRY IS AT THE EDGE OF A PROFOUND TRANSFORMATION. BRINGING TOGETHER DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES ALLOWS US TO UNLOCK NEW OPPORTUNITIES THAT IMPROVE AND EQUALIZE TRANSPORTATION IN OUR CITIES AND COMMUNITIES WHILE HELPING TO PROTECT OUR PERSONAL SAFETY AND THE PLANET."

President and CEO, Ford Motor Company
