We're developing intelligent technologies to help drivers avoid crashes. These innovative technologies use visual and audio signals to help alert drivers to potentially dangerous situations where braking or evasive steering is needed.
Smarter Cruise Control for Safer Driving
To help drivers stay safe when they're using cruise control, we developed Adaptive Cruise Control. This next-generation intelligent cruise control uses forward-looking radar to adjust your speed and maintain a driver-selected distance from the vehicle ahead in the same lane.
If the lead vehicle slows down, or if another object is detected, the system sends a signal to the engine or braking system to decelerate. When the road is clear, the system will re-accelerate the vehicle back to the set speed for safe driving.
Features
Adaptive Cruise Control includes the following features:
- Maintains a safe, comfortable distance between vehicles without driver interventions
- Maintains continuous performance
- Alerts drivers by way of automatic braking for safer driving
Availability
Adaptive Cruise Control is available in the 2008 Volvo S80, Volvo XC70 and Volvo V70.
