We want to keep everyone in your vehicle safe. To help keep child passengers safe, we’re helping parents and caregivers learn about the safe use of child restraints.
Tips for Safe Use of Child Restraints
It is estimated that 80 percent of child restraints are not properly installed. Here are important points to remember when purchasing and installing a child restraint:
- Not all child restraints and vehicles are compatible. When purchasing a new child restraint, examine its fit in your vehicle.
- Have your child with you when purchasing a child restraint to examine the fit. For information about size and weight ranges and installation instructions, consult your vehicle and child restraint owner's guides.
- When you purchase a new child restraint, mail in the registration card to receive product update information and potential recall notifications.
- Always properly wear your safety belt to encourage your child’s safety belt habits for life.
