News CenterFord Centre for Young Visitors
To help young people experience the wonders of the British Museum, we've supported the establishment of educational facilities and programs.
At the Heart of the British Museum
The Ford Centre for Young Visitors is the British Museum's first facility dedicated to meeting the needs of school-age children and provides a base for the hundreds of thousands of young people who visit the museum in school and college groups or with their families each year.
The 6,000-plus-square-foot Ford Centre for Young Visitors is an integral part of the Clore Education Centre, located beneath the new Great Court at the heart of The British Museum.
The Ford Centre includes young visitor orientation services, workshop facilities, children's art exhibition areas, storage units and a cloakroom, lunch areas, lavatories and a baby-feeding room. The Ford Centre is fully accessible by wheelchair.
A More Accessible Museum
In conjunction with the Ford Centre, we also supported Children's COMPASS, an innovative web-based guide to the British Museum for children. Children's COMPASS is designed to make the extensive collection of the British Museum fun and accessible for children and teachers, furthering the museum's mission to illuminate world cultures.
Our Support
The Ford Centre is one of many British Museum projects we support. We've also supported two major traveling exhibitions drawn from the museum's collection of Egyptian art: Egyptian Treasures from the British Museum and Eternal Egypt: Masterworks of Ancient Art from the British Museum.
About the British Museum
The British Museum holds in trust unequalled collections of art and antiquities from ancient and living cultures around the world, including the Rosetta Stone and the Parthenon sculptures, acquired from Lord Elgin in 1816.
