Our all-new 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine is a powerful, cleaner engine that eventually will be under the hood of one in five of our vehicles in North America. It delivers smooth power and lively performance to bring the new Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX to life.
Part of Our Global Strategy
Our new 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine is a key component in our global powertrain strategy. This powertrain helps deliver better fuel efficiency, more refinement, more power and cleaner emissions.
In the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, the new engine is mated to an all-new six-speed automatic transaxle. The combination delivers improved highway fuel economy of up to seven percent and improved sustained acceleration compared with a typical four-speed automatic transmission.
Named To Ward's 10-Best Engines List
Our all-new 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine has been named among "Ward's 10 Best Engines" by Ward's Auto World. This award is high praise for our engineers, as the 3.5-liter engine class is one of the most competitive in the industry.
Less Pain at the Pump
Able to run on 87 octane regular grade fuel, our customers can enjoy the 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine's smooth and ample power with less pain at the pump. Many competitors require more expensive mid-grade or premium fuels to achieve their top ratings.
Low Emissions Capability
With careful design consideration for the combustion system and catalysts, our engineers designed the 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine to meet stringent emissions standards without the need for expensive add-on technology.
This new engine is capable of achieving Partial Zero-Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) certification by delivering low cold-start emissions and enabling rapid catalyst light-off, which is a significant accomplishment for a larger displacement V6 engine.
Power in a Modern Package
Our new 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine produces 265 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque with a 3.5-liter displacement unit, but it's the same height and width as the less powerful Duratec 30 V6. The compact size of our new engine enables us to install it in a wide variety of current and future products.
The all-new 3.5-liter V6 architecture also provides significant flexibility to incorporate additional engine technologies. The 3.5-liter engineering team included extra provisions to make upgrades easier. These upgrades include such potential features as hybrid capability, gasoline direct injection and direct injection with turbocharging.
Engineered for Performance
In developing the new 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine, our engineers targeted excellent performance, fuel economy and low exhaust emissions. They also put particularly emphasis on making sure the engine worked harmoniously with our new 6F six-speed automatic gearbox.
To ensure a quiet, lively and trouble-free driving experience, engineers analyzed the transaxle and engine together to optimize noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics of the powertrain.
