Helping Prevent Rollovers for Safe Driving
A vehicle's handling and braking capabilities can help a driver avoid accidents. Our industry-leading Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®) system, combined with our AdvanceTrac® electronic stability system, can give a driver more confidence in an emergency situation.
The RSC® system uses two gyroscopic sensors to detect when a driver corners too fast or swerves sharply to avoid an obstacle. The system then applies pressure to the brake(s) on the wheel(s) on the outside of the turn. This induces understeer and helps bring the inside wheels firmly to the ground, reducing the likelihood of a rollover event.

To date, we’ve built more than 4 million vehicles globally with electronic stability control systems. More than 1 million of those vehicles feature AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™.
Roll Stability Control™ was first introduced on the 2003 Volvo XC90, and is now standard equipment on SUVs and crossovers including Ford Explorer, SportTrac, Expedition, Edge, the new 2008 Escape and E-series Wagons equipped with the 5.4L engine. It’s also standard equipment on Mercury Mountaineer, the new 2008 Mariner, Lincoln Navigator and Lincoln MKX.
We’re developing the next-generation regenerative braking system for the 2009 Escape Hybrid and Mariner Hybrid to be compatible with RSC.
