DAVID GILLILAND IS FAST IN PRACTICE AT CHICAGO

DAVID GILLILAND – No. 38 freecreditreport.com Ford Fusion – “Right now we feel like we’ve got a pretty good handle on the car. We still need to be a little bit better, but our freecreditreport.com Ford Fusion is pretty fast. We’re excited. It held on to its time pretty good. It’s just a little bit tight, so we’re working on that right now.”

YOU’VE RUN WELL THE LAST FEW WEEKS, AND YOUR TEAMMATE, TRAVIS KVAPIL, HAS BEEN RUNNING WELL, TOO, AND WAS 10TH FASTEST IN THIS PRACTICE. HAS THIS RECENT SUCCESS BEEN BECAUSE OF CIRCUMSTANCES? HAS YATES BEEN WORKING ON SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR? “Just running fast every week, that’s what our goal is each and every week – to be fast in practice, fast in qualifying and fast in the race. We’ve been racing well, we’ve been practicing well. Neither one of us has qualified as well as we would like, and right now we’re trying to work on going to test that somewhere, and just work on our program to get that side of it a little bit better. But, as a whole, very happy. Our goal is to just be fast – fast in everything we try and do.”

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS SERIES, IT’S IMPORTANT TO RUN WELL AT MILE-AND-A-HALF TRACKS LIKE THIS ONE. IF YOU’RE GOOD AT A TRACK LIKE THIS, CAN YOU TWEAK A LITTLE BIT AND BE GOOD ON DIFFERENT TYPES OF TRACKS? “Yeah, definitely. There are quite a few tracks similar to this one, so, yeah, everything we’ve learned up until then has helped us to be where we’re at today, and everything we learn this weekend is going to help us get better at each every mile-and-a-half track we go to after this.”
